About Me
Bradford Malbon – Flute Maker and Repair Person
Bradford earned a B.S. in Music and Mathematics at the College of William and Mary in 2005 and a Master of Music in flute performance from UNLV Las Vegas in 2007. During his college years Bradford began his training in flute making and repair during summer workshops with John Landell. After graduation from college, Bradford began work as a flute finisher at Powell Flutes in the Boston area. While at Powell Flutes, Bradford primarily finished handmade flutes and also worked as a head joint maker.
Following his move to Asheville, North Carolina in 2012, Bradford became flute finisher and repair technician for the Abell Flute Company–a role he continues to serve in to the present day. Bradford has also served as flute repair person for many local and regional professional flutists in the southeastern United States, as well the greater USA and internationally. As a career flute maker, Bradford has a deep knowledge of flutes and detailed interest in the materials and techniques of flute making and repair. Although he is now primarily engaged in flute making and repair, Bradford continues to perform as a flutist with the Blue Ridge Orchestra.
